| site_overview | 大坊古墳は有明海に注ぐ菊池川とその支流錦川との中間にはさまれた台地の南斜面を利用し、玉名平野に臨んで築かれた板石小口積みの前室と奥室からなる横穴複式石室墳である。石室上部は長径25m、短径10m、高さ5mほどの楕円状の封土で被う。奥室内に石厨子を設け、その内部に三角形を横に五段に並べ、そのあいだに六個の円を配して赤と群青色で彩色した壁画が描かれている。顔料は元東京芸大教授日下八光氏の調査で明確になった。昭和38年内部清掃と実測調査の際、多数の副葬品が出土した。 |
