江戸時代中期以降、領主の財政が戝政が窮乏化し、年貢の増徴がおこなわれた農村では、飢饉のときなど生児を人鳥的に殺生し人口を制限することをおこなった。圧殺、絞殺、窒息死、土中生き埋めなどの方法がおこなわれた。これに対して領主は、労働力の減少、田畑の荒廃などを防ぐため、この間引の風習を禁じ、禁令・教諭・養育料の給与などをおこなった。この図は、間引きの悪習を教諭するために広く配布されたものである。 |
