現在真浄院が所有するこの曼荼羅は、もと仙台にあった遍照寺のものであった。この遍照寺は、天長年間雲山に創建され北畠顕家の祈願所とされ、のち福島に移って真浄院と改めたともいわれているが、遍照寺は信達地方の諸寺が伊達氏とともに仙台に移ったと同様やはり仙台に移った。対となる金剛界曼荼羅の軸に「□剛界曼荼羅陸奥大守政宗君寄附之」の墨書銘あり
