江戸時代、福島藩領であった腰浜村に賤民が居住していた地域があり、通称ジウが屋敷（旧腰浜村字下釜）と称されていた。その北西の端にあたるところで畑の深耕中、地下約40cmくらいのところから発見された。メダイは青銅製品で青緑色に腐蝕してはいたが円形1個 楕円形8個、菱形のもの1個、そのうち同じ図柄のもの2個9種類10個出土した。この円形のものは中央聖母子像、頭上に左右より冠模様のものを捧げ持つ二天使、中世キリスト教会画の画題に多く用いられた。裏面はイエズス会の創立者イグナティウスデ・ロヨラらしい。 |
