江戸時代福島藩領であった腰浜村に賤民が居住していた地域があり、通称ジウが屋敷（旧腰浜村字下釜）と称されていた。その北西の端にあたるところで畑の深耕中、地下約40cmくらいのところから発見された。メダイは青銅製品で青緑色に腐蝕していたが合計10個出土した。
これはその一つで、中央上部に十字架を持ったキリスト、円く光背があり、中央下に1HS、すなわちイエズスホミニウス サルヴァトール耶蘇人類の救済者というラテン語の略図である。
裏面は被昇天の聖マリヤか左右両端に突出しあり。 |
