山田衛居は明治二十三年三月、神武天皇御即位大礼図を描いて宮中に奉納したが、この複製版画は衛居の歿後明治四十年に親戚知人に配布するため、とくに縮写作成されたものである。山田衛居は氷川神社の神官で、菊池容斉について歴史画を学び、早くより一家をなしていた。明治三十九年十一月十六日、五十九才で歿くなった。 |
