情妙寺は慶安年間、徳川家康菩提のため、中島新四郎長意が位牌所として建立した。長意は茶屋四郎次郎清次の弟で、家康の命により尾張義直につけられた。この図巻は茶屋家の一族茶屋又次郎新六が船長として交趾（安南）方面に貿易におもむいた時の状況を絵巻物に描いたもので、日本貿易史上貴重なものである。年代は画中の事蹟からみて、元和3年後半から4、5年の間のものと推定される。 |
