| Form / Shape | 古武井川およびその支流に挟まれた低段丘上にある。
安政３年、箱館奉行が、付近の砂鉄を原料として、大砲を鋳造するため、幕府の許可を得て、武田斐三郎に命じて築造させた。わが国最初の高炉の試みの一つとして貴重な遺構である。
近年まで、高炉基部のレンガ組み等が残っていたようであるが、現在は原型を全くとどめておらず、碑によってその位置を知るのみである。 |
