最上山形の紅花は色素が豊富で、京西陣の紅屋、染織物屋に歓迎され、豪華絢爛の奥女中衣裳としての需要に応じ、輸出量は「最上千駄」と云われ、最高1,300駄にのぼったという。これらの積荷は、在地の荷出問屋から大石田まで陸送、最上を舟で下して酒田に集荷し、酒田から日本海を宝船に積んで敦賀に揚げ琵琶湖を縦断して大津から京都の紅花問屋に送り届けるのがコースであった。
筆者の青山永耕は、東根六田の人で嘉永、安政、万延年間に永耕と号しているから、幕末の作であると思われる。 |
